Starting college is exciting, and IU Dining is here to help you feel confident about dining on campus. Registered Dietitians Lauren Bartholomew, MS, RDN, and Erin Collicott, MS, RDN, support students with food allergies, food intolerances, and other dietary needs.
- Connect with an IU Dining dietitian. Questions on food allergies, food intolerances, or dietary restrictions? Email nutrinfo@iu.edu anytime during the semester. Our dietitians can answer your questions and help create a dining plan that fits your needs.
- Carry an emergency kit. If you have severe food allergies, wear a medical ID bracelet or necklace and keep an anaphylaxis emergency kit with you. Your kit should include:
- Your name and date of birth
- Two epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens) and instructions for use
- A list of your allergies
- Your typical mild and severe reactions
- Emergency contact information
- Share your allergy action plan. Make sure the people around you know how to help in an emergency. Consider sharing your allergy action plan with your roommate, resident assistant, friends, professors, and advisors.
- Ask questions when you dine. Dining hall managers, chefs, and cooks are AllerTrain-certified and available during meal service to answer questions about ingredients and food preparation. If you're unsure, just ask. We're happy to help.
- Learn the menu symbols. Menu labels identify foods containing the FDA's nine major allergens: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, and sesame, plus coconut. Please note that allergen labels indicate what a menu item contains. For example, a D icon indicates that the item contains dairy. Additional preference icons identify vegan, vegetarian, halal, beef, and pork options.
- Try Free From IX. Located in McNutt Dining Hall, Free From IX serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Every meal is prepared free from the nine major food allergens by specially trained staff using dedicated equipment.
- Visit our Worry Free stations. Our Worry Free locations offer additional allergen-friendly choices.
- Forest Dining Hall: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner free from gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, sesame, shellfish, and fish.
- Wright Dining Hall: Vegan, allergen-friendly breakfast options and Mediterranean-style grain bowls free from gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, sesame, eggs, shellfish, and fish.

- Use NetNutrition and Nutrislice. Before you dine, explore daily menus online using NetNutrition and Nutrislice. Filter by dining location, allergens, dietary preferences, ingredients, and nutrition information. You can also scan QR codes posted throughout McNutt, Wright, and Forest dining halls and the Goodbody and Collins eateries. All five locations are All You Care to Eat dining halls with multiple concepts. Goodbody and Collins are smaller but include a carryout option not offered in the three dining halls.
- Stay connected throughout the year. Students with an IU Dining meal plan receive the monthly Dining & IU newsletter featuring dining updates, nutrition tips, and campus resources. If you haven't connected with an IU Dining dietitian yet, it's never too late. Email nutrinfo@iu.edu for personalized support and subscribe to the newsletter online to stay informed.
