Expanding those Meal Exchange horizons
We get it—no matter how many food options are available across campus, it’s easy to end up in a food rut—particularly for those with allergies and special diets. Below are a few options that may not be part of your usual rotation. Let us know of your favorites and send dietary questions to askrps@indiana.edu.
As always, find allergen, nutritional information, and calorie counts for these items at go.iu.edu/NetNutrition.
Union Street Center+ & O’Neill Cafe
In a rush? Grab a bagel with or without cream cheese, yogurt, fruit, and a drink for breakfast at one of these locations. Gluten-free bread is available for the make-your-own sandwich or salad bar at lunch, with Deep River chips and a fountain drink on the side. O’Neill also offers Udi’s Gluten-free desserts, which are available at the IU Art Museum Café, Ballantine Hall, and the School of Education.
The IMU: Quarry Pie
Sometimes, pizza is the only answer. Quarry Pie in the IMU offers up slices fresh from the fire oven with salad or breadsticks and a drink.
The IMU: The Mix
Did you know The Mix in the IMU serves hot breakfast? Stop by daily from 7 to 10 a.m. for a breakfast platter (options include oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit, and coffee). The Mix lunch includes two soup options, a robust salad bar featuring all the standards plus tuna and egg salad, grilled chicken, bacon, quinoa, chickpeas and more. This concept also offers rotating, fresh-cooked hot dishes (mashed potatoes, broccoli, mixed veggies, and proteins including chicken, beef, pork, and turkey).
The IMU: Whitfield Grill
At first glance, the Whitfield Grill on the lower level of the IMU may not seem like the go-to for allergy-friendly meals. But look more closely and you’ll find grilled or fried chicken, beef or Beyond Burgers, gluten-free buns and fries, dairy-free chicken tenders, and even salad if you want to throw in some greens. All meals come with a fountain drink of your choice.
